How to get a High Alexa Rank

In the last time some bloggers ask me how I get a great Alexa Traffic Rank of 94,350. Now I have decided to share my tips with all bloggers and try to help everyone to get a high Alexa Rank.

The Alexa Traffic Rank is calculated by the Visitors from every Country of the world (Traffic Rank of different countries). That means you dont need hundreds or thousand visitors only from the usa, because than you dont get a high Alexa Rank. Its important to get visitors from many countries.

How to get Visitors from other countries?

At the first I have used BlogCatalog.com, because there are many bloggers from all over the world. Than you can take a look at the Blog Directory at Blogcatalog.com and than you can browse blogs by Country, Language, or User. Choose country. Here you can choose blogs from different countries and try to write the blog owners if they want a link exchange or banner exchange. That was my way to get some visitors from countries like Germany, UK, Australia, India.

If you get visitors from countries like these, you get really fast a high Alexa Rank in these Countries. For example I have a Alexa Rank of 20,290 in Germany and I get only 5-10 visitors daily from Germany. And when you have some visitors from many countries you get really fast a higher Alexa Traffic Rank.

I didn’t realize how much foreign visitors affected your Alexa rank. For some sites, however, foreign visitors aren’t valuable, so even though they increase you rank, they are in reality useless. Alexa is just a measure, as there are several low-ranked sites that are much more profitable than high ranked ones.

Alexa rank is especially important if you want to get sponsership from websites. They often look at your Alexa rank to gauge the potential of advertising on your website. I am currently trying to work my Alexa rank down too since my blog is only 1.5 months old.

Apparently Alexa is getting a *bit* more relevant as they are starting to use other data as well as their toolbar data (which very few people have installed).

But I still don’t think it is something worth worrying too much about…

If people are thinking about advertising directly on your web site – I think something like quantcast stats would be more important?

Hi Marcel,

Great Post! I wonder why more bloggers don’t use Alexa. To a certain degree it is a better tool than Google. I recommend that everyone get Alexa’s toolbar in their browser to check out sites as they go along.

Practical tip…glad that you’ve mentioned. Apart from BlogCatalog you can join some of the regional (international) online groups like Yahoo Groups or Google Groups and having an active participation there could also drive in international traffic.

Getting traffic from countries all over the world is only good if your website caters to people all over the world. If you are promoting something that only caters to people in the USA it wouldn’t do you any good to have traffic Australia.

Thats the crazy thing about Alexa, having a high Alexa score doesn’t really mean anything other than you have a high Alexa score. But it is what it is. Good tip though.

Alexa rank is counted by its own toolbar. so get high rank when you will use alexa toolbar (sparky). Know wholinks2you . Who links to my website?

Alexa rank means good traffic. Which will give us good idea about how many people are visiting our site daily. By this if our blog is High Traffic blog then we will get good money for advertisement in our blogs…So it is A good posting..Not only link exchange but also good content and tag make sense for traffic

I will have to checkout Blogcatalog.com in detail and give it a try. Currently, I have an Alexa ranking of 566,007 for a new blog that I made my first post on March 01, 2009. Furthermore, I even got a PR1 and wasn’t expecting that either.

However, I don’t just rely on Pagerank and Alexa. I rely on page content, site design, web traffic and other ethical methods.

This is a great post, fortunately 70% of the time of website owner is consumed in experimenting towards increasing page rank and alexa rank. To start with increasing page rank one must start with downloading Alexa toolbar for IE or firefox on as many system possible. as a second step alexa widget on every page of your website, by this way every webpage opened is counted while calculating rank inspite is user does not have alexa toolbar installed.
